You're kissing cousins
There's no smoke, no flame

- Joan Armatrading

Ok, so incompetance is NOT the root of all evil - it is the handmaiden of evil.

Today I am supposed to be in a "Duh" meeting all day. I call it a "Duh" meeting because the organizers spend all day trying to convince everyone of what we already know we should be doing. Duh! And then, the meeting will focus on what obstacles we face to do this. This is also something we already know - the rules and regulations we have to follow create these problems. Duh! And then we will talk about how to fix the problems - change our rules and regulations. Duh! Oh, but wait. We did not make the vast majority of these rules and regulations. So we will have spent the day essentially paying a consultant to tell us what any first year design student knows. My profession will be maligned most heinously because apparently no one informs the consultants that although we all work as planners, a number of us are actually architects and landscape architects. And at the end of the day, nothing will be achieved except the organizers will pat themselves on the back and add it to their list of accomplishments for the year.

No, really, I'm not all that cynical.
